KNOW THE FACTS ABOUT VETERINARY ULTRASOUND – PART 2
We continue our ‘ultrasound fact bonanza’ this week with fifteen further pieces of information all relating to the field of veterinary ultrasound. It should be noted however that this list is by no means comprehensive, and there are many more aspects of ultrasonography just waiting to be explored.
- According to the Dog Breeds List, there exist over 300 breeds (DogBreedsList) that will vary on size, shape etc... Consequently, it is important to choose an ultrasound scanner that is specific for your particular patient. Please contact us for more information.
- If you are thinking of becoming a dog breeder, our canine ultrasound scanning training course may be just what you need. Be an expert in establishing the presence of pregnancy, when is the best time to breed and identify any potential problems early on.
- We run a range of ultrasound training programmes – please contact us for more information.
- Our Cattle Scan Training is DEFRA-approved, which will allow the participant to carry out ultrasound scanning internally in cattle.
- Vet Image Solutions is an approved and certified distributor of the Draminski iScan…in fact, the only one in the UK.
- Veterinary ultrasound scanners suitable for use with our bovine counterparts can serve a dual purpose: detecting the establishment of pregnancy and assessing the eventual quality of meat.
- Ultrasonography can help farmers and cattle breeders to pick animals who do not have high compositions of body fat, but rather that have loins most suitable for meat production.
- The quality of meat is also an important consideration in sheep and pigs. One study published in 2013 demonstrates the use of ultrasonography in this field by using ultrasound to assess the meat quality in Large White pigs by measuring defined parameters (Sokolov N.V. and Karmanov D.A., Russian Agricultural Sciences, January 2013, Volume 39(1), pp 78-81).
- We always try to provide our clients with cutting edge ultrasound technology. Only last month we launched a brand new ultrasound machine – the VIS Scan Pad.
- The VIS Scan Pad will be of particular interest to practitioners that are required to scan in a variety of locations, with touchscreen buttons, the ability to freeze imaging and rewind to that perfect shot, and comes with a 15” monitor.
- The advantages of utilising veterinary ultrasound are well known. A paper published in 2014 by Ginther OJ (Theriogenology, 1 January 2014, Volume 81 (1), pp 112-25) discusses how ultrasounography has been a lifeline for carrying out reproductive research in a variety of animals.
- The aforementioned paper looks at the different ways that veterinary ultrasound can be used, including in assessing the characteristics and behaviour of the follicle, sexing of the foetus and enhancing our knowledge of what goes on during an equine twin pregnancy.
- The Draminski iScan and the VIS Evolution ultrasound scanners may be the perfect devices you require for assessing equine and bovine pregnancy.
- Vet Image Solutions is not just an ultrasound stockist – we also have interests in research being carried out in the veterinary ultrasound area.
- And finally, do you know that Vet Image Solutions has our own Youtube channel, Twitter account (@VIS_UK) and Facebook page? – click on each link to find out more.
