The new BreederTec has just been launched - but what makes it so special?

The BreederTec's predecessor, the KX5200v, was well known for its image quality, but it had a few practical weaknesses when it came to large animal scanning. Whilst its image quality was up there with scanners three or four times its price bracket, it was a machine that was more at home in the research environment than hung around a cattle vet's neck getting covered in rain, mud and cow dung on a daily basis.

For this reason, Kai Xin set out to develop a new scanner which could compete with the biggest names in large animal scanning.

The result of this work is the new BreederTec ultrasound machine, which boasts:

- Stronger protective outer shell

- Left or right hand operation

- Higher resolution

- Lighter weight, reducing fatigue for the operator

- Over 4 hours of use per battery

- Shade cover, allowing the scanner to be used outdoors, even in direct sunlight

- Easy dissassmbly of probes and the ability to swap between different probes for different applications

- Optional goggles. Goggles only need to plug into the machine to work – they do not have to be powered by their own external battery as many competitor models do (such as BCF EasiScan). The BreederTec also has two rings underneath, allowing the scanner to be easily supported with the left or right hand over the ring finger.

The huge advantage of the BreederTec over other scanners is not only that it is so lightweight and portable, but it is just so amazingly cost-effective. For only £2000 + VAT, you can get a machine perfect for cattle scanning which you would normally expect to set you back in the region of £4000 - £5000. What's more, it can be equipped with additional probes relatively cost-effectively also, meaning that the one scanner can be used to scan everything from mice to cows!
