Patricia Tennant, aka Gloucestershire Pet Services, is the focus for this week’s instalment in our mini-series. She has lots of experience when it comes to all things dog-related, having bred German Shepherds for the last three decades, and taking part in canine competitions. Interestingly, the Kennel Club published reports in 2011 and 2012 that revealed the German Shepherd was the 4th most common dog breed that was registered by owners in the United Kingdom (Kennel Club).

Gloucestershire Pet Services carries out a variety of work that includes microchipping, walking dogs and of course, carrying out veterinary ultrasound scanning. Patricia gained her ultrasound experience by attending the Vet Image Solutions training courses at both Levels One and Two, and explains that ultrasound is one aspect of her business that is very well received – both by her clients and by herself! It is not just the practical side of scanning that Patricia offers her clients, she is also able to offer advice for any owners or breeders of pregnant dogs which can be invaluable throughout gestation. One such example was an incident whereby one client required confirmation that her Labrador was not carrying lurcher pups but rather Labrador pups. As the client in question knew that her dog had mated twice (one deliberate and one unintentional) within a short period of time, she was hoping that Patricia could tell her good news and the outcome she wanted! A lurcher pup is not classed as a pure-bred dog (Wikipedia), but luckily thanks to her prior training and the images retrieved from ultrasonography, Patricia was able to verify that the pups would be the latter, which was later confirmed upon birth.

Here at Vet Image Solutions we offer a great variety of veterinary ultrasound scanners that are sure to fit whatever criteria you require, and it seems that Patricia will be taking advantage of this in the very near future! This will enable her to cover a greater area than she does currently, and increase the number of animals she currently scans. Suitable scanning machines for dog breeders can be found under the relevant section on the Vet Image Solutions website that can be viewed by clicking here. Our mini-series continues next time, thanks to all of you who have taken part so far. If you would like to be involved, please contact us and we will send you a short questionnaire to fill out.
