Kick starting our ‘Ask the Experts’ series this week is Catherine Stowell, one of the managers at Vet Image Solutions. With the birth of the Royal baby still very much at the forefront of the public’s mind, there was no question that this week I had to look at the use of veterinary ultrasound during pregnancy. Despite the successful fertilisation, and in some cases, fixation of multiple embryos during equine pregnancy, it is now well accepted that twin pregnancies are somewhat a rarity. 

To those within the equine industry, the occurrence of a tendon or ligament injury can be very problematic. Tendons and ligaments can be distinguished by the functions they each carry out – namely, tendons connect muscle to bone whereas ligaments connect bone to bone. These tissues must have the ability to stretch (like an elastic band) in order to allow flexibility that is required for general everyday movement.
