For those specialised within the veterinary field, the limitations of working with animal species are all too clear. Staff working in the barn of our university dairy herd has recently started using iScan for pregnancy diagnoses. They are licensed AI technicians and regularly perform all inseminations in the 240 cows plus recruitment heifers. Without previous experience of gynaecological ultrasound, they managed well at their very first attempts to identify the uterus and diagnose if a cow was pregnant or not.

Ocular ultrasonography was previously discussed with respect to animal tracking and identification. This article therefore discusses the use of ocular ultrasound in a clinical setting. In instances following trauma or injury, where the ability of a practitioner to view the eye through ophthalmoscopy is prevented, an alternative method is required. On such occasions, the eye may be swollen shut and an appropriate treatment may not be able to be prescribed.
